A healthy breakfast that includes high-fiber cereal can lead to healthy weight loss and keep diabetes, heart disease, and stroke at bay.
My mornings used to consist of rushing to get ready for work, and rushing out of the door without a breakfast. By 10am I was drained and dragging myself on the ground. I really needed to figure out a way to fit breakfast into my tight morning schedule. Being that I wake up super early just to get ready for work and stay at work late, I knew I could not spare another minute waking just to fit in breakfast. My only option was to be creative and come up with some fast ready to eat breakfast foods.
The first thing that I decided to do was find recipe’s. There are millions of options out there for you to choose from. If you check out our recipe book section you will find a number of books from paleo to smoothie diet, but all are healthy and delicious. The next thing I decided to do was prep as much as I could the night before to ensure that my breakfast was as “automated” as much as possible. Below you will find a list of five of my favorite breakfast’s. Feel free to comment and add your favorite fast breakfast.
Peppers red/green yellow/Onions
Scramble eggs with a little olive oil, red and green bell peppers, onions, black pepper. Once complete place it in a burrito wrap and hit the road.
Oatmeal (instant/or traditional)
Cook your oatmeal. Toss the oatmeal and the rest of the ingredients into a tupperware bowl and go!
A balanced, easy-to-assemble make-ahead morning meal: Grab an apple, wrap 1 to 2 ounces of Cheddar in plastic, and toss ¼ cup of fiber- and protein-rich walnuts into a tupperware container.
Smoothie or shake Powder
Low-fat milk/soy milk
Protein powder (optional)
In a shaker, combine a packet of vanilla or strawberry instant-breakfast powder (look for the no-sugar-added kind, such as Carnation) and 1 cup of low-fat strawberry cow’s milk or soy milk. (You can also mix this the night before.) If you have time, use a blender to add strawberries or a frozen banana, for extra fiber, and a scoop of protein powder.
When all else fails you can fall back on good old fast food. If you must eat fast food in the morning, get an Egg McMuffin at McDonald’s. At 300 calories, it’s not an outrageous meal. Plus it has a good amount of lean protein from the egg and the Canadian bacon. To trim empty calories, remove the top half of the muffin. For additional fiber, add a fresh orange.
All these breakfast’s are ready to eat on your way to work or at your desk. Let me know what you think and if you have any further quick morning breakfast ideas!
The new happy hour!
I love happy hour! I mean really, who doesn’t love Happy Hour? Unwinding from a hard week of work, “Pre-gaming” for your weekend escapades, and ingesting some of your most beloved foods and drinks. It feels like I have no issues or cares in the world, except for having a good time and getting ready for my exciting weekend. I wished at times that I could have this feeling everyday……. That is when it hit me, like a clean connecting uppercut to the chin from Mike Tyson, “Why not make happy hour an everyday event?” With such an important change in my life, it was only correct to make my happy hour during the most important meal of the day, breakfast. By making breakfast my new happy hour I have reaped so many physical, mental, and emotional benefits and changed my life! Below are a few reasons why this change has had such a profound impact on my well being.
Reason Number One… Mindset!
No one goes to Happy Hour sad, that’s an oxymoron! Breakfast happy hour in the same right, puts me in the perfect mindset to start each and everyday, just as its sister “happy hour” does for the weekend. Having a fresh mind for a brand new day each morning is refreshing and I get joy out of waking up to start something new or finish something that was not complete the day before. Having the perfect mindset also promotes a stress free day and opens my mind for endless possibilities. Research has shown that breakfast alone helps you to have a great day.
Reason Number Two… The Feel Good Meal!
Our bodies cannot run on empty until lunch time. Our energy levels have a direct relationship as to how good or bad we feel. Breakfast gives our body nutrition and substance, which is where our energy comes from. People who do not eat breakfast have considerably less energy than people who do. Our bodies need to be nourished in the morning. If we do not eat in the morning our bodies will not be able to produce the energy we need for the day and end up acting like Oscar the Grouch.
Reason Number Three… Concentration!
People who do not eat breakfast often have a hard time concentrating. They also have difficulty learning because they are scatterbrained. People who do eat breakfast tend to be much more focused on the task at hand. They do not have trouble concentrating nearly as much as those who do not eat breakfast.
Breakfast truly is the most important meal of the day.Although there are many more reasons why I chose breakfast as my new Happy Hour, these are just a few examples as to how it has changed my outlook on everyday. What better way to start your day off than with a positive attitude and a healthy breakfast.
